Walt Disney- A Brief History

Walt Disney was born on December 5, 1901 in Chicago, Illinois. Disney grew up on a farm and enjoyed drawing pictures of the animals. He drew on toilet paper and used tar to draw on the side of his family’s wall. He made Oswald the lucky rabbit in 1927 because people were losing interest in his cartoons. A funny thing Oswald could do was disassemble his body parts. After one year, he lost the rights to Oswald and had to come up with a new character. That character was Mickey Mouse. Disney created Mickey Mouse on May 15, 1928. “Plane Crazy” was Disney’s first cartoon with voice acting. Before that, cartoons only had music for sounds. Later that year, “Steamboat Willie” was released. It was the first cartoon to match the voices and music to the action perfectly.
In 1935, the first technicolor Mickey Cartoon was made called “ The Band Concert.”. It was the 73rd Mickey cartoon. The Italian conductor Arturo Toscanini was such a fan of “The Band Concert” that he saw it six times in the theater and later invited Walt Disney to his home in Italy. In 1939, “The Surprise Party” was released. It was a major design update for Mickey and Friends. Disney’s Last Speaking Role on Mickey was in 1947’s Mickey and the Beanstalk. In 1955, Walt opened Disneyland. In 1966, Walt Disney died because of lung cancer. Because of Mickey, Walt Disney was able to go on to make full length movies, open theme parks, and bring joy to children all over the world.
